Another Design Pivot At The Hygge Ranch: Media Room (ORC) Update
Dear Diary --
Today the new power sectional for our media room came & I can't believe this is my life. I have a POWER SECTIONAL... me... a whole me! The delivery team came with the pieces & I could not wait for them to leave so I could dive right into the sectional.
It fit so perfectly in the space between the stairs and the wall, like it was custom made for that very spot & the double footrest situation is more perfect that I imagined. Whether it's movie nights with the family or late nights catching up on my Apple TV queue, many a lounging is gonna be had here & I can't wait.
Oh hey yall... didn't see ya there lol
But lemme catch y'all up...
I wrote that entry back in November when our new power sectional from Apt2B arrived — the Toranado 2pc Leather Sectional with Power Foot Rest — and I meant every single word. The sectional was perfect for the space.
But then we had to pivot... and then pivot again... and then pivot some more.
Thinking back on it, I don't know that there was any exact rhyme or reason as to why we chose one room to be the study and the other to be the media room. We were likely influenced by the previous homeowners' set up — the room we'd chosen for the media room is where they had their television & sound system set up, while the other room seemed more like a flex space, likely for entertaining. It wasn't until we were hit with an unexpected hiccup in the laundry room that it came up to switch the rooms!
Once we realized how tight the laundry room would be, my husband got to plotting -- yep... he got hit with the design bug! He came up with the genius idea to flip the rooms, freeing up the wall where the tv hung to be opened up and giving us the clearance we'd need to make the laundry room a lot more comfortable. Moving the media room would also give us a larger wall that could, in turn, be used as a screen for a projector. Genius right!?
What would happen to the study?
With fewer walls to work with, I'd def have to modify the space plan but nothing that would be the end of the world. The only drawback would be having to repaint the ceiling & trim but again... not the worst problem to have.
The new location of the media room is even more perfect than before, with the sectional being even more perfect than before. It floats in the room and, paired with the newly painted walls in Sherwin Williams' Cyberspace, gives the room a blue-grey vibe, not as dark as the original rendering but definitely the same vibe. It's warmer. It's cozier. And even though it's not technically complete, it has been our go to place for just hanging out.
The living room is still a place of respite for us, but the media room is a different kind of vibe. The two rooms are, in effect, like day and night.
Many a night of lounging has already been had in the media room on the sectional. And paired with our new cube storage ottomans from The Inside, the media room feels very grown & sexy -- I mean guys... it's a whole custom vibe. After we hang our posters and other finishing touches, I may never have any need for the outside world. And isn't that the goal...
...to create a home that you don't need a vacation from?
...to create moments & not just gather things?
...to create a home that truly feels like ours?
Check.
Check.
And check.
It is my intention to enjoy our home to it's fullest as soon as possible, and with this room done-ish, I feel like I can breathe a little easier & enjoy a little more.
