Around The House: Decorating With Acrylic

Even if you're new here, you've probably realized that one of my favorite things to buy is anything acrylic. If it were up tp me, I'd own a lot more than I actually do but alas, I'm bound by the rules of availability and cost.

I've have, however, never let such things stop me from window shopping!

Acrylic vs. Lucite

What is the difference between acrylic & lucite?

First things first, it has to be said that there is no actual difference between lucite and acyrlic. It's like asking what's the difference between Kleenex and facial tissue, or the difference between Vaseline and petroleum jelly.

Lucite...plexiglass... they're all more of a "brand" name, whilst acrylic is the actual material.

Now with that little bit of knowledge out of the way... let's get to the business of buying the pretty things. I enjoy designing and styling with acrylic is because of its transparency. Using clear materials like acrylic can help with a space feeling lighter -- visually, compared to more opaque materials -- while also assisting with bouncing/creating light throughout a space.

Lastly, the clear silhouettes are innately chic and add an air of sophistication.

Even as storage solutions, the addition of acrylic ups the luxe level of any design. And I should know -- I have acrylic items throughout the house... just not as many as I'd like. Lol. I am always fascinated by the different applications for acrylic, especially in the home industry... from chairs to tissue boxes, carts to trays... I've even seen some amazing cribs designed with acrylic.

Are acrylic products something you use in your home design? Would you? I'd love to know your thoughts on all things clear.
