Charming Modern Kitchen

I love working on projects where the client knows early on what they want for the simple fact that it feels more like a collaboration than a job; and this remodel was, from start to finish, an awesome collaboration! She had a great vision in mind for updated their kitchen & since we weren't making any changes to the actual foot print, this was all cosmetic and all fun.

The initial mood board was inspired by their style, as well as the style of the house, since the kitchen is part of an open concept floor plan.

Waterfall edge. Open shelves.

This was music to my ears! I'll admit, although I've worked on a myriad of styles, I absolutely love working on designs that have elements of my own personal taste, and this kitchen did not disappoint.

During our brief, we talked through a few updates to the design outside of what was on the moldboard. For example, as much as they loved the stainless steel "farmhouse" sink, we didn't want to encroach on the already limited counter space, so an undercount made more sense. Also, she preferred a clean more classic backsplash so we went with the tried & true white subway tile.

With the measurements provided, I put together some elevations plans.

After about 4 weeks of refining the design -- finishes, furnishings, and decor -- we pulled together a final design!

This modern design was all about contrasting finishes and dramatic accents -- from the dark grout and glass white subway tiles, to the waterfall marble counters and dark cabinet finish.

Relocating the microwave and removing the upper cabinets allowed for a new modern range hood to compliment the appliances and hardware.

The wood floating shelves introduced the charm & character they wanted and tied back to the existing aesthetic, while the pendants introduced a soft touch & subtle glam.
