One of my absolute favorite go to vendors for sofas is Interior Define. They have a fairly "small" catalogue, compared to maybe some other sofa vendors, but all their stuff is made to order and they have some of the best collaborative collections. I first discovered them when they collaborated with The Everygirl, one of my favorite sites for information and inspiration. This was maybe a year ago; and I've since sourced about a dozen of their sofas for different projects, including their swoon worthy Rose Sofa (from their collection with The Everygirl). They have these amazingly modern yet timeless designs, and it's like you're getting a custom sofa every time!
So when one of my clients told me she needed help styling her Miles Slipcovered Sofa from I/D, I was completely geeked out. A little bit about Miles...
Designed with crisp, right angles and uniform-height arms and back, Miles is a perfect combination of utility and comfort.
She chose her Miles sofa in their Heavy Cloth fabric in "Panther". In lamens terms -- a sturdy fabric in a dark color. Challenge accepted!
So often we make a pragmatic choice when it comes to our upholstery because we have kids and/or pets, or just because we think it's "easy" when reality is, it's not!
Fun Fact: dark colors attract just as much dirt as light colors!
The upside to the Miles sofa is that the slipcover is fully removable, but what if your dark sofa isn't a slipcover? Or what if it is, but you still want it to be stylish & good looking. Check out 3 ways I style the Miles in Panther:
For what, on the surface, appears to be a very neutral aesthetic, a closer look reveals that this CB2 look is PACKED with depth & texture: you have the faux fur throw, the 3d effect quilted pillow, the copper toned velvet pillow, and rounding out the look, the extra long lumbar featuring an array of triangles which include metallic foil gold. Yes, Yes, Yes, and YES!
This set is a great contrast to the dark, dramatic upholstery, yet still creates a cohesive look that could work for any design style & aesthetic. It's neither masculine nor feminine, contemporary nor traditional, minimalist not eclectic; it just works.
One word: GLAM! And would you guess these are all H&M? Because they are! This look is very soft & feminine, wth a very subtle element of glam & sophistication.
But that's not what I love about it. It would be SO FREAKING EASY to switch out this. entire look with very very minimal effort because the window treatments are a very neutral backdrop, while all three pillows are ACTUALLY pillow covers! Yep! Covers. I briefly already told you guys how much I love throw pillows covers and this is a clear example of why they're everything. Pop off the covers and easily take this look from glam bachelorette to "I just moved in with my boyfriend" chic (could totally be a thing, by the way...)
This look features all Target pieces. It's fun, budget friendly, and has a very eclectic, yet purposeful feel.
The obvious star of the show is the rug! First off a LIVE for a good shag rug that I can sink my toes into... LIVE! If I didn't have a toddler, I'd have shag rugs all over the house, to be honest. And even though my personal palette isn't bright & colorful, I've always been inexplicably drawn to bold colors. This rug pulls you in in a way that isn't overpowering or offensive, and is complimented by the pillow assortment. The geometric theme is carried throughout, and it's particularly interesting in the yellow pillow. Not only does it really stand out as a true POP of color, but it's a textured pillow, so that adds another layer of dimension for a look that is everything but boring.
