How to Add Pantone's 2019 Color of The Year to Your Home
I’ve never been one to get hung up on color forecasts because often what I’d see happen that people would take it literally & go overboard using it in everything from fashion design to home design. So I’ve always just gone with what felt natural to me & the project at hand.
But the recent color of the year announcement from Pantone really caught my attention, because while it’s a BEAUTIFUL color, I don’t know if it’d be the one I’d pick to define a whole year.
Living Coral
According to the Pantone Color Institute, what the 2019 color of the year — Living Coral — represents is “playful expression,” and our “innate need for optimism.”
While I can totally agree with 2019 needing all of the above, I am still on the fence about the color itself being representative of the entire year.
BUT…
Because I love a good challenge, I thought about different ways this color could be incorporated in a design & truth be told, it wasn’t all that difficult.
Living Coral shows up beautifully as an accent color — be it as the color you thread throughout the design or the fun pop to break of a palette of neutrals. In this way you could really play with bringing it into your space as a rug, decorative accent, mirror, throw pillow, lighting, and/or occasional seating.
The best part of each of the aforementioned is that they require a pretty low threshold of commitment, so these are pieces you can rotate throughout your home or throughout the year; as oppose to maybe committing to a larger, more marquee piece in this color.

Pantone also states that the 2019 choice also highlights an environmental treasure under threat:
Keeping this in mind, I found that if I wanted to honor Living Coral in designs, I wouldn’t have to necessarily honor the color itself. I could, in the spirit of “playful expression”, incorporate more oceanic & coral inspired elements.
