Mood Board Inspiration: February 2020

The other day I was going through my camera roll, in a desperate attempt to purge my photos — I am not one of those people who hoards photos so anything over 100 drives me insane! — and I came across one of my High Point Market Spring 2019 photos. While there was so much eye candy from that season, one of my photos immediately jumped out at me, and I said to myself, “what a mood!

Soft. Intimate. Warm.

Those are the words that come to mind when I take in this scene… and perfect for February! The neutral hues we see here are a gentle transition from the cold winter months; and even though spring is a whole month away, there’s no better time than the month of love to start and soften up the palette, beckoning the next season.

What initially drew me to this space is why it is a whole mood — breaking the rules!

If you read my HPMKT 2019 Trend Report, then you’ll know I posed the question of whether or not pink was a new neutral, redefining the more traditional ways of viewing color. The blush hues can be the star of the show or simply part of the supporting cast, depending on the space. No matter how you choose to incorporate these soft tones, one thing is certain: pink isn’t just for millennials anymore.

I am totally one of those people that was super resistant to the way pink hues entered and began to dominate the design space, but admittedly, I am now a believer. These aren’t the pinks of yesteryear — paired with rich neutral tones, the palette let’s you explore color play in new and exciting ways.
