Self Care Essentials: At Home Workout Must Haves
I haven't been shy about my fitness struggle journey, from sharing my favorite 'fits to documenting some of my workouts. While I could list off a number of factors contributing to my fitness Ferris wheel, it has always come down to discipline — creating space and consistency in my life to keep up with healthier habits. After all these years of going back and forth with my health, I have a pretty good sense of what does & doesn't work for me.
What do I mean?
When it comes to weight loss, healthy skin, increased energy — whatever the fitness goal — there's no one size fits all. I've come to realize that I have an unhealthy relationship with food, so I struggle with snacking & portion control. When it comes to physical activity, my body responds best to cardio and high intensity workouts.
As I've gotten older, my body has changed, which means my fitness needs have changed... but some things remain the same. If I am able to consistently move my body — dancing, walking, whatever — while also watching my portions and drinking a healthy amount of water, it does wonders for how I look & feel.
Incorporating HelloFresh into our meal regimen has been such a game changer for the eating part of my fitness journey, freeing me up to think about how to tackle my physical goals.
My workout regimen to build myself back up has been slow and steady — rebuild my stamina then my strength. Since I have no intention or desire to go to anyone's gym any time soon, I needed to scale my fitness goals and find ways to make it work at home.
Here's what I've been using or plan to get to use:
When thinking about working out at home, I had to think beyond equipment, ensuring actual motivation to workout, and eventually the discipline to continue.
I've always maintained that there are certain "hacks" that can assist with developing a healthy fitness routine at home. With that, in addition to equipment, I shop apparel and accessories that'll contribute to a healthier lifestyle:
water bottles to help with hydration & daily water intake
small foot print equipment for easy storage
stylish storage solutions to easily integrate workout gear into decor
cute apparel to boost confidence & "dress the part"
The hardest part of working out, in general, is getting started and staying consistent — it's a muscle in itself. Working out at home comes with its own additional challenges simply because you're home. Personally speaking, there were more times than I can count when I wanted nothing more than to just stay on the couch and watch Netflix... not get dressed & workout. Having the right at home workout essentials — beyond the equipment — is a safeguard against laziness and complacency.
Also acknowledging the equal importance of rest & recovery, every item is chosen with my comfort in mind. Do you work out at home... or have you gone back to the gym? I'd love to know how you're staying on track at home and what your fitness must haves are.
