Stay At Home Order: Comfort Essentials

Present Day

January 21, 2020: the 1st confirmed case of COVID-19 in the United States is reported in Washington

March 11, 2020: The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic

For the past month (maybe longer?), I have been blessed and fortunate enough to have been working from home as we try to protect ourselves and prevent the ongoing spread of COVID-19...aka flattening the curve. Yes, “working from home” sounds fun & easy, but being at home for both work and home life isn’t exactly a pleasure picnic. I also know, firsthand, that working from home as an employee versus working from home as an entrepreneur are two similar, but different experiences; and I had to make adjustments to my mindset and home accordingly.

I had to invest in making sure I was both comfortable and productive.

Setting up my comfort essentials meant accommodating for the things I could no longer do outside — for business and for personal.

For work, while I typically would work from my laptop, I knew this wasn’t the best long term plan. Thankfully, I still had a desk set up and a Mac mini to work from, but I still needed to step it up to make sure I was being truly productive while at home — organized and focused on my tasks, and not distracted by the change of environment.

For myself, there’s very little that I needed in the outside world, to be honest -- work childcare, gas, groceries, shopping, hair, nails...pretty short list right? That said, I still needed to be sure I could execute these activities so I could take care of my household and so I could still feel like myself.

The goal, for me, was to curate a sort of ongoing care package — as a mom, wife, employee, and just all-around busybody, it’s become way too easy to forget about myself. I realized, long before this quarantine, but especially during, that the same energy I put into taking care of my daughter, maintaining my home, and doing my job… I realized I wasn’t exactly putting that same type of energy into myself.

No time like the present right?
