Growing up I always found Father's Day easier to shop for compared to Mother's Day because I've always found men easier to shop for. As an adult this hasn't changed at all, which is why 2 weeks before Father's Day, I've already got my gift guide ready to go! I will admit, however, this'll be my husband's 3rd Father's Day, and shopping for him has become increasingly more difficult (I'm still the better gift giver). Every year I try to not only be pragmatic & sentimental when it comes to giving gifts, but also unpredictable. I manage to surprise him every year when it comes to giving gifts and I expect this year to be no different.
Whereas for Mother's Day, I've always put more emotion that practicality into my gifts, for Father's Day, it's always been the other way around. Whether I was shopping for my father, brothers, or now, husband, I'd first think about what they need and could use, and then add just enough sentiment to make them feel special; this usually meant getting them something they want but wouldn't get for themselves (within my budget of course).
It's so easy to forget that men like to feel just as special as women do, sometimes more, depending on the dynamic of the household. Personally, my husband is the primary breadwinner, so I always try to do a little bit extra to show him that his 50 hour work weeks don't go unnoticed or unappreciated, no matter how much I may complain.
So what to get that special dad-person in your life? Think about what they need; not just what you hear them say they want, but what they NEED even if he doesn't know he needs it yet. Then, how can you "upgrade" that gift? Doesn't have to be lavish or expensive, just thoughtful. Last year, I knew my husband needed a new watch, and because I know he loves gadgets & gizmos, and is an Apple junkie like me, I of course got him an Apple watch. The upgrade: additional wristbands to switch it up and a rugged bumper that he could use at work. Easy Peasy.
Now check out some my my top picks for Father's Day gifts!
Cook N Home 12 Piece Cookware Set in Blue
Why I Love It: There's a reason SO many chefs are men -- men love to cook. I can tell you first hand, the navy blue finish are sophisticated & masculine, and if my husband is any indication, the man in your life will appreciate both the look and durability of these pots.
Amazon Echo in Black
Why I Love It: Aside from being a tech geek married to another tech geek and therefore biased, dad will love the Echo's sound quality, smart features, and just general ease of use. And this is coming from two avid Apple users.
Monogram Wood Watch Box
Why I Love It: I live for a good storage solution, so one that's also attractive is always a plus in my book. After quite the many Father's Day it's possible dad's now got quite the watch collection, so why not give him a gorgeous place to show them off. Did I mention it's also monogrammed? Swoon!
Why I Love It: This definitely falls in the category of "things he needs but doesn't know it yet." To say this robe is soft would be both insulting & an understatement, because I'm pretty sure this robe is what it would feel like if Heaven's angels gave you a hug. Okay, maybe not all the angels, but this'll definitely have dad feeling warm & fuzzy inside & out.
Still Standing by Tommy Ingberg
Why I Love It: I love for a good black & white photograph or piece of art, so this print is right up my alley. Dad will love it because of the strength, determination, and general "swag" illustrated in this piece. P.S. It's already framed for him.
Anchormaster Spyscope w/Mahogany Tripod
Why I Love It: Two words -- functional art! This is definitely a splurge item but it's crafted so beautifully, that's worth every coin. Not only is it a great statement piece in, let's say, dad's office; but it's actually great for looking out at the moon.
Bottle Accessory Gift Set
Why I Love It: I'm no wine connoisseur so my wine comes from Target & goes in the fridge; however, if dad knows a chardonnay from a merlot, he'll definitely appreciate this set. To be fair, even if he doesn't know the different, he'll appreciate & that's what makes this gift so awesome -- the pieces are wine drinking must haves regardless of your wine expertise, beautifully presented.
Wireless Mobile Projector Pro
Why I Love It: For months my husband pestered me about a projector & I didn't understand the hype -- we have a tv, duh. But while on active duty, him & his buddies all went in on one, and even through our FaceTime conversations I could see what the appeal was. Dad will love the sleek design and that he can project his movies & presentations on the go with awesome video & audio quality.
17 Piece BBQ Tool Set
Why I Love It: Remember what I said about men & chefs? With summer practically here, it's bbq season. Grill sets are the new took kits. Plus, you already know how I feel about good looking, well put together storage solutions. No more rummaging through the utensil drawer for the tongs & skewers.
Glacier Rocks Ice Ball & Tumbler Set
Why I Love It: Tumblers are to men, what wine goblets are to women; doesn't matter if you're drinking whiskey, wine, or cranberry juice. My husband first introduced me to whiskey stones and such, some years ago, not because he's avid drinker but because (1) they looked good and (2) when he did drink, he didn't have to worry about a watered down libation.
