Dress Up Your Desk
So if you had to ask me what my fav part of designing is, it’s the shopping! In my everyday life I love finding pretty things; and if they happen to solve a problem while we’re at it...well, then I’m #winning.
I don’t discriminate when it comes to my love of shopping, but I used to especially obsessed with shopping for my office, before switching it over to my daughter’s bedroom. A lot of the decor I purchased, I still like to switch out & rotate between my desk, bookshelf, and other areas of our home; but when deciding what to get, my desk def served as a lot of the inspiration, aka the anchor piece.
And I don’t buy just to buy — no, no, no. Just about everything I purchase not only looks good but also serves a purpose — from my hang file organizer to my oversized paper clips to my inspirational print.
When I’m shopping around I have 3 priorities in mind:
organize
accessorize
add greenery
If it doesn’t fit into at least 1 of those priority buckets, I don’t even bother. This keeps me on task & on budget.
The way my brain works, organization is KEY! I cannot function when things aren’t in place — EVERYTHING HAS A PLACE. Although I tend to periodically change my way of organizing as my life evolves, having an organized desk is at the cornerstone of my work feeling functional & productive.
No one says you can’t be successful in style.
Actually, I prefer it. In the same way that I accessorize when I get dressed, I accessorize my desk for work. A really pretty desktop accessory makes for great eye candy & inspiration.
For greenery, my usually go to is, of course, succulents and/or the cacti family. They’re hard to kill & easy to maintain. I mean, c’mon! What’s better than that?! Not to mention that they come in a pretty cool assortment of shapes & colors...now we’re accessorizing while we’re at it!
