Mood Board Inspiration: April 2020
It’s officially spring!
The sun is shining more regularly. Flowers are in bloom. And stay-at-home orders are now the current “norm”. P.S. I use the term “norm” very loosely and generously because there is truly nothing normal about a global pandemic…but I digress.
Living in the Pacific Northwest gave me a newfound appreciation for nature’s beauty, but specifically the colors in nature — I didn’t exactly always get the benefit of seeing a crayola assortment of trees and clear blue skies while living in Hell’s. Kitchen. While I’m sure this is probably the first spring for all of us, where we’re spending most of it in our homes, there is still so much beauty out there in the world to appreciate — and with any luck, that we’ll be able to enjoy before the season changes.
That was my inspiration for this month’s mood board — bringing home the simple beauty around us.
Mother nature is quite the muse…
While it may be the rich and vibrant hues of greenery that are more synonymous with springtime, I believe that there is a simple yet significant beauty to be found in the blue hues of spring skies. It’s almost as if the world has shed its grey, dull winter skin, to reveal this new skin that exfoliated, moisturized, and hydrated.
The color blue symbolizes tranquility and peace, which we can certainly use more of now.
how do we bring more tranquility and peace into our homes?
Reminiscent of a winter wonderland palette, you do so with a balance of soft and cool neutrals, with a hint of warmth, like the bright sun in the clear skies.
From the ground up, you can implement this palette in your home — literally, from the rug to overhead lighting.
Whether you go for large marquee pieces or subtle decorative touches, there’s a balance within this palette that makes it easy to execute and fun to play with. Reminiscent of the simply joys of springtime, the options are limitless.
Feeling the spirit of spring can be difficult with current events as they are — and also hard to resist the urge to get outside — but there is nothing stopping us from bringing some joy from the outside in with out decor. Replicate your own blooms through pattern play, create your own sunshine through layered lighting, and before you know it we’ll be back outside enjoying the season.
